We enjoy
assisting both employees and employers with the evaluation,
mediation, litigation, and settlement of employment
discrimination claims. We will evaluate claims for employees
who believe they have been treated differently by their employer
due to one of the reasons listed above. We can also assist
employers with the defense of such claims. We strive to provide
our clients with practical advice, to achieve resolution as
quickly and cost-effectively as possible.
We represent our
clients before the Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI), the
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and in Oregon
state and federal courts.
We counsel both
businesses/employers and employees regarding compliance with
state and federal wage laws. We can assist employees who are
being paid less than the required minimum wage, have not
received appropriate break time or overtime pay, or are not paid
timely upon termination. We can also counsel employers
regarding changes in the law to ensure appropriate compensation
and avoid clams for penalty wages. We will also provide capable
and cost-effective representation to employers and employees in
the litigation of these claims, if necessary.
General Business
Advising
We advise our
business clients with a variety of issues. We enjoy drafting
employee handbooks and policies that meet our clients’ needs.
We advise clients on employee relations and compliance with
applicable laws to avoid potential claims. We also assist with
negotiating and settling contract disputes, and will litigate
breaches of contract if necessary. We strive to respond
promptly and cost-effectively to meet the needs of the
businesses we represent.
Civil Litigation
We represent our
clients in all Oregon state courts and federal courts, as well
as before administrative agencies. We handle a wide variety of
cases involving business and individual disputes.
Estate Planning
We can assist
with planning for the transfer of assets at the end of life,
including drafting the following documents:
 |
Wills |
 |
Powers of
Attorney - Durable, Non-durable, and Springing |
 |
Advance
Directive for Health Care |
 |
Disposition
of Remains |
 |
Anatomical
Gifts |
Many clients find
it difficult to discuss these issues; we do our best to provide
compassion and understanding as our clients think through these
important decisions. We help clients explore and evaluate
options, to help ensure that their wishes are followed. We will
counsel clients about designating decision-making power to a
trusted source, and will draft a power of attorney or assist
with the completion of an Advance Directive for Health Care.
Most estate planning services are performed on a flat fee basis,
which is discussed at the initial consultation. We do our best
to draft clear, concise documents that convey our clients’
wishes and that are easy to understand.
Domestic
Partnership Planning
On May 9, 2007,
Governor Ted Kulongoski signed into law the Oregon Family
Fairness Act (House Bill 2007), which establishes a statewide
domestic partnership registry system that will provide legal
recognition to same-sex relationships beginning in January,
2008. We counsel couples on deciding whether officially
registering as domestic partners would fulfill their
relationship goals and how doing so may, or may not, effect
their estate plans.
We also assist
clients in their domestic partnership agreements and end of life
planning.
